What is The Fresh Art@ Project?

“I wish I could donate myself to Fresh Art as that’s where the transformation has been” – Fresh Art @ Participant

Fresh Art@ is an innovative project which began in 2014 and makes a real difference to people’s lives by encouraging social inclusion through art, culture and creativity. It is a partnership project which runs from February to June each year and creates artwork to enliven NHS environments involving Creativity Works, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health NHS Partnership Trust (AWP), HCRG Care Group, Bath Mind, The Holburne Museum, Bath Preservation Trust, The American Museum & Gardens, participants, carers, volunteers and local artists.

The project promotes positive wellbeing for participants by building beneficial connections between health and social care services, museum settings, local communities and the arts. Participants can self-refer or are referred onto the project through mental health support organisations. Creative sessions are facilitated by professional artists both in the community and on hospital wards.

Participants donate some of their artwork to the project and benefit from the pride and recognition of having their work seen by others. Each year a public exhibition showcases the new artwork. In total over 230 artworks have been donated to NHS settings since the start of the project.

Everyone involved in Fresh Art@ believes that creativity can make a significant difference to people’s lives by inspiring and supporting them to have fun, be creative, learn new transferable skills, improve health and wellbeing and connect with creative and cultural community opportunities.

Some quotes from the Fresh Art Project, July 2021

It has slowly given me confidence to share with other people, even though I am still scared it has been a big step forward for me

Communicating with others and being part of a group helped me feel connected when I had been feeling isolated. My confidence was quite low, but the course helped me to gain confidence in myself and in what I created.

It brought comfort making new friends and saved me!! I was really struggling and feeling very low. Now I feel a lot more confident moving forward.
